Please follow the detailed instructions below and you might find it a great helper. This way always works as long as you never change the built-in administrator account with blank password. Once you get back to your Windows with the administrator account, you are able to change the current but forgotten password. With a new one for your original account, you can log back in to the Windows as usual. Power on the computer and hold F8 key immediately.
As you can see in the following figure, you have couples of choices to make. You should choose Safe Mode and hit Enter. Once you reach the Windows desktop, there are 4 methods to bypass the lost xp password. Recreate a new password by typing " compmgmt. Do it by right-clicking My computer on the desktop, left-clicking Manage , opening Users , right-clicking a user name, selecting " Set password ", typing in your new password twice and finally clicking OK.

I had assumed that it would be perfectly legal, and planned to borrow my grandma's copy, but she did some research and apparently it is illegal she says that the disc is apparantly still property of dell so she's reluctant to let me borrow it.
I'll try that CTRL-ALT-Delete thing, but I think I tried that before, and a window appeared that I still needed to password to log on, because if I tried to do it with a different name, it said "user not found, please try again" or some bull like that. Thanks for the advice, though. Also, forgot to mention that I would need it to be downloadable onto a floppy because my computer still can't get onto the internet.
Thanks :woo:. Try username Administrator. Another thing to try - I think it is sometimes it is possible to get into Safe Mode and then reset the password from there. Press F8 when it is starting up and choose Safe Mode. Check your PM's.

Restart the computer and set it to boot from CD. Tutorial can be found here. Once following screen appears, hit a key immediately to continue. Or it will still boot your Windows XP normally. It will give you several options and ask you what to do. It will ask you to select part of registry to load. All local user accounts of your Windows XP will be displayed. It will ask you what to do for the user account. It will tell you the password is cleared.
Now you just need to follow the steps bellow to save changes and restart the computer. Buy Now.
